We are going to suggest you one other of Iranian saffron foods, its name is Grilled Saffron Chicken.

Grilled saffron chicken is a very delicious and popular dish in Iran. It is known to Joojeh Kebab or Jujeh Kabob! (Persian name). This kebab is usually served at parties such as wedding ceremonies. It is a food that is almost never eaten alone but with family or in a picnic. There are two ways of serving it: with saffron rice or with Persian bread. I´ll post the recipes for fresh bread soon. Grilled tomatoes are always included beside this dish, but other optional components are grilled peppers and fresh lemons.

Grilled Saffron Chicken Recipes

Servings: 4, Prep Time: 20 minutes, Cook Time: 10 minutes


  • 1 Kilogram boneless chicken breast 
  • 1 large onion (peel the onion and chop it into small pieces)
  • ½ Cups olive oil 
  • 1 – 2 Teaspoon Saffron Extract
  • 1 Teaspoon black pepper powder
  • 2 Teaspoons salt 
  • 4 Tablespoons lemon juice 
  • 4 medium tomatoes
  • Enough herbs, garlic powder, vinegar


First of all, put some olive oil, vinegar, herbs, salt, chopped onion and garlic powder into a bowl and stir it. Add 2 tsp of saffron extract with some lemon juice and a little pepper powder.

Then cut the boneless chicken breast into square (cube) pieces and put it into the bowl and stir the materials. Make sure to mix the chicken pieces very well into the materials so that all the pieces are coated. Leave it for two hours in the fridge.

Now you are ready to make the Joojeh Kebab .Put the saffron chicken pieces onto a long, thin metal skewer with some small tomatoes.

Then pour a little of the oil mix with vinegar over the Joojeh Kebab.

Grill the kebabs for 10 - 15 minutes, turning them regularly until the chicken is brown on all sides and make sure both sides are equally cooked.

Finally, serve the grilled saffron chicken with a little salad and a cold drink!
